Julie Dewsnup, RPh, CDE, AAHIVP

2018 Oregon Diabetes Educator of the Year

Julie is a Registered Pharmacist and a Certified Diabetes Educator.  She earned her pharmacy degree at Oregon State University.  Through her experience of 30+ years of practicing pharmacy, Julie considers providing optimal care for her patients the main goal. During the last 20 years,  Julie developed a passion working in clinical diabetes management.  She has worked both with the type 1 and type 2 diabetes communities.  Julie is a certified trainer for insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors.  She enjoys helping people find the diabetes regimen that works best for their lifestyle.  Julie understands that diabetes management is not a one size fits all solution.

Her passion for serving extends beyond the Eugene community with her volunteer work to educate individuals and families living with diabetes in Fiji and Tonga.  Now she has decided to use her experience and skills to pioneer a non-profit pharmacy/diabetes education center that allows her to fully embrace the needs of those living with diabetes, with a special focus on helping those living with type 1 diabetes.

Julie has lived in the Eugene area for most of her life.  Her hobbies include hiking, walking with her golden retriever, reading, and gardening.

John Marvin, PharmD

John is a recent transplant from upstate New York, where he completed his pharmacy degree at St. John Fisher College. During his first year of pharmacy school he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. This diagnosis helped guide his focus with his clinical rotations, and opened the door to meeting several diabetes educators. John is currently training under Julie, and is working on attaining his certified diabetes educator licensure. John is an advocate for expanding the clinical role in which pharmacists serve on the healthcare team.
When not working or volunteering, John is an avid runner, and has completed 2 full marathons and over 20 half-marathons. John also enjoys reading, hiking, and spending time with his dog.
